Confirmation is divided into two classes that meet at either 9:30 or 11:00. Each class will offer 12 color groups that consist of one color leader and an ideal maximum of 7 students. Color groups are formed by school association: i.e. Mitchell; Collins; Wilkerson; John Cooper; Vogel/other area schools; and Christian School/Home School. Some groups may be all male, or all female or mixed. Please feel free to state your preference of class hour; gender; school and whether you wish your child to be in your group or in another group. Color leaders are not responsible for teaching the lessons. Teaching is primarily handled by Sheryl, Eric, ministry staff and a lay team. Color leaders attend PLANET56 and play games with students during pre-activity time; participate in group praise and worship and then 5th and 6th grade students separate into different rooms. The first 20 minutes in the classroom is large group lesson taught by the teacher. The final 20 minutes is in small group where you lead your color group in a discussion of the lesson, collect accountability sheets and take prayer requests and close in prayer. We ask the current week teacher to provide you via email with a lesson outline and list of discussion questions so you will be have a heads up on what you will be discussing with your group.
COLOR LEADER RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following activities are mandatory:
- Training session - Saturday, August 23 at 10 am - receive instructions and prepare students' tote bags; will last approximately 2 hours.
- “Tribal Survival” Retreat – October 3 - 5. Leave from the church on charter buses at 6 pm with box lunches from Jason's Deli and travel to Carolina Creek Christian Camp (located between New Waverly and Huntsville). Return to the church on Sunday by noon. This retreat is for Confirmation students and one or both parents or a mentor. Students do not attend without a mentor.
- "True North" Retreat – Sunday February 10th at the church. Color leaders have the option of inviting their color group for a sleep over at their home on the Friday evening before or meeting Friday evening for a fun outing with the group.
- Confirmation Rehearsal - May 16
- Confirmation Sunday - May 17
- Keeping the Group Notebook - The notebook contains each student's original registration form and photo. Color leaders are responsible for recording accountability sheets as students turn them in weekly.
- Progress Post Cards - Color leaders are responsible for sending to students and parents at the 1/3 mark and the 2/3 mark as a progress report on number of required areas currently reported. This helps students and parents stay on track for participation, memory work, and extra activities.
Additionally, color leaders need to make it a priority to be available for the following:
- Sunday Morning Confirmation Classes - August 31, 2008 - May 17, 2009 (if absent, get a parent from your color group to sub for you)
- Mission Service Projects - December 5-6, March 14, and April 11
- Really get to know the 6 - 7 students in your color group on a personal level, and help them grow in spiritual maturity during the year. Also get to know their parents to help in the partnering/mentoring process.
