The Beatitudes

Matthew 5:3-11

“Blessed are the poor in spirt, for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven.”
To be poor in Spirit is to be aware of your needs and short-comings and to be humble. You are gifted with eternal life.

“Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted.”
God is always with those who are sad or depressed by their short-comings and losses; God will comfort these people.

“Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.”
Those who are obedient and listen to God will have abundant life in the present.

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they shall be satisfied.”
Happy are those who look for what is good and right, for they will find what they seek.

“Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.”
Happy are those who have compassion for others and their troubles, for they are showing forgiveness as they have received it from God.

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.”
Happy are those who get their inside world right—heart and mind put right. Then you can see God in the outside world.

"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.”
Happy are those whose peace with God helps them to be in agreement with one another. As children of God they will promote peace among their friends, family, and others.

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.”
Some Christians are mistreated because they are Christians, but God promises to comfort and reward them in heaven.
